AFRICA TOURS

Dance and Drumming Study tour of Senegal
June 1st to 26th 2009 Music workshops, tour, SENEGAL, WEST AFRICA June 2009. Whether you are a scholar or adventurer; student of music, French or culture; a professional or serious musician; or even someone who just wants a cultural holiday with a difference, this month long workshop in Senegal offers a unique and holistic experience. Pape Mbaye, your teacher for this infectious African drumming workshop in the seaside village of Yoff, Senegal, is what the Senegalese call "a griot." That means he's the village storyteller, the guardian of Senegal's oral and music traditions, a lineage that traces it roots back 800 years. For two and a half decades, Mbaye was not only the keeper of the history, the legends and the music for this fishing village 20 minutes or so from Dakar, but he was its head drummer.
